It's September! To us, fall kicks off entertaining guests, and preparing the wardrobe season for weather elements. Twice a year, fall and spring, I like to refresh my fabrics – clothing and household withScotchgard™ Fabric & Upholstery Protector.

Scotchgard helps repelling liquids and blocking stains so they don't set in easily – came in handy a few times last season with an enthusiastic accidental wine spill and a shoe trek thru mud. The less I have to clean up or worry about my things the better, I can enjoy the season of entertaining!

You won't be able to tell if your items have Scotchgard on them, it doesn't change the texture of the fabric or add any sheen. It can be used on cotton, polyester, silk, wool, acrylic, nylon, and most other washable fabrics.

I knew I put up this outdoor clothing line for good reason!

I like to use Scotchgard on our chair covers as well. We host a weekly get together at our home and of course my yearly girl gang Christmas party, so the dining room chairs get lots of use – and they're white! When my dad saw them he said, "You better put Scotchgard on them to keep them clean!" Great minds, dad.

I also refresh a coat of Scotchgard on our fabric placemats since they often get spills from dinners, too.

It's suggested to reapply Scotchgard every cleaning or annually to maintain the best protection.

Here are a few tips once you get Scotchgard in your hands:

  1. Protect your coats, shoes, right now fall or winter wardrobe. Consider taking it outside if weather permits, this way you don't worry about it getting on hardwood floors or surfaces (if it does, just wipe it off immediately).
  2. Shake the can and hold can upright 6″ from fabric surface. Overlap spray using a slow sweeping motion and remember two light coats are better than a heavy coat.
  3. When done with your clothing, look at high traffic living areas in your home.
  4. Protect dining chairs, living room sofa, pillows, and blankets. I don't worry about the entire surface but the most used places people touch and sit – like when they touch to pull out the chair or when food falls off their lap.

  • Table cloths and placemats
  • Backpacks
  • Caps
  • Shirts, ties, dress pants and suits
